Iguazu Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a vast system of nearly 275 individual waterfalls spanning almost 3 kilometres along the Iguazu River, straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil within lush subtropical rainforest. The falls' centrepiece, the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo), is a U-shaped chasm where the greatest volume of water plunges 82 metres amid thunderous spray, widely considered one of the most powerful and awe-inspiring sections of any waterfall system in the world.
The Argentine side of the falls offers the more immersive, up-close experience, with an extensive network of walkways and catwalks bringing visitors directly over and alongside the cascading water, including a dedicated trail leading to a platform right at the edge of the Devil's Throat itself. The surrounding Iguazu National Park also supports rich biodiversity, including toucans, coatis and, with luck, elusive jaguars, making a visit here as much about the surrounding rainforest ecosystem as the falls themselves.
Iguazu Falls suits families, couples, groups and nature lovers, for a stay of 2 to 3 days to explore both the upper and lower circuits and the Devil's Throat trail. A small train within the park connects the main visitor areas to the different walking circuits and the Devil's Throat trailhead.
Many visitors also cross briefly to the Brazilian side for a different, more panoramic perspective of the falls, though this requires checking current visa and border crossing requirements in advance.
Fly from Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi to Buenos Aires, usually with connections through a European or Middle Eastern hub. Check current routes, visa requirements and book early.
Take a direct domestic flight, about 2 hours, to the gateway town.
Take a short taxi or shuttle, about 20 minutes, to Iguazu National Park.
Walk the upper and lower circuits, and take the train to the Devil's Throat trail.
April to September
Cooler, drier conditions, comfortable for walking the circuits.
October to November
Warming temperatures with generally good water flow.
December to March
Hot and humid, with the heaviest rainfall and highest water flow.
