About Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is one of the most unusual destinations in the world. Most of the country is covered by the Karakum Desert, yet it holds some of Central Asia's most remarkable sights: a capital city built almost entirely of white marble, a flaming gas crater glowing in the middle of the desert and the ruins of cities that stood on the ancient Silk Road for thousands of years.

In one trip you can walk through Ashgabat, a city of monuments, golden statues and wide boulevards that holds several world records for its architecture. You can camp near the Darvaza Gas Crater, which has been burning for decades and glows spectacularly at night. You can explore Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage site and once one of the greatest cities of the Islamic world, and the Parthian fortress of Nisa, close to Ashgabat.

For Pakistani travellers, Turkmenistan offers a rare mix of Islamic and Silk Road history. It is a Muslim-majority country, halal food is widely available and the Turkmen are known for their hospitality, carpets and the famous Akhal-Teke horses.

The classic route covers Ashgabat, Nisa, Darvaza and Merv, often combined with Uzbekistan for a wider Central Asia journey. With more time, you can add Kow Ata Underground Lake, Yangykala Canyon or Konye-Urgench.

SaffarGuru takes care of flights, hotels, private transport, guides and sightseeing, and works with licensed local partners to guide you through entry requirements, so you can enjoy a well-organised trip. Every package can be tailored to your dates, budget and group size.
