Nusa Penida is a rugged island just off the coast of Bali, much wilder and less developed than the mainland. Steep limestone cliffs drop to bright blue sea, and secret beaches sit at the end of rough roads and long staircases.
The island has become famous for photos of Kelingking, a cliff shaped like a dinosaur, and for natural wonders such as the Broken Beach arch, Angel's Billabong and Diamond Beach. The island is divided into east and west areas — the west holding Kelingking, Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong, while the east has Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach. It can be visited as a long day trip from Bali, but staying overnight gives more time to see the sights without rushing.
Roads on the island are narrow and steep, so hiring a local driver is recommended over riding a scooter. The island suits couples, groups, adventure lovers and photographers, for a full-day trip or 2 to 3 days.
ATMs are limited on the island, so carrying enough cash is important, and some natural pools have strong waves — stick to the designated snorkelling spots like Manta Point and Crystal Bay.
Fly from Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi to Indonesia, usually with one connection through a Gulf, Malaysian or Singaporean hub. Check current routes and book early.
Take a taxi, ride-hailing car or hotel transfer to Sanur harbour or your hotel.
Take a fast boat to Nusa Penida, about 30 to 45 minutes. Book a driver on the island.
Visit viewpoints, beaches and snorkelling spots, and return by boat.
