Table Mountain, a flat-topped peak overlooking Cape Town and designated one of the New7Wonders of Nature, dominates the city's skyline and has served as a defining natural landmark for centuries, long used as a navigational point by passing ships rounding the Cape. Formed from sandstone and some of the oldest rock on Earth, the mountain's distinctive flat summit, roughly 3 kilometres in length, offers sweeping 360-degree views over Cape Town, Table Bay, Robben Island and the Cape Peninsula.
The quickest and most popular way to the summit is the rotating Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, which has carried visitors since 1929 and offers panoramic views during the roughly 5-minute ascent. For more active visitors, several hiking trails lead to the top, including the steep but direct Platteklip Gorge route, while the summit itself features walking trails, a restaurant and unique fynbos vegetation found nowhere else on Earth.
Table Mountain suits families, couples, groups and photographers, for a visit of 2.5 to 4 hours, longer for those hiking to the summit. Cableway operations depend on weather conditions, particularly wind, so checking the current status before heading up is worthwhile.
Booking cableway tickets online in advance is recommended, especially during peak season, to avoid long queues at the Lower Station.
Fly from Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi to Cape Town, usually with connections through a Gulf and southern African hub. Check current routes and book early.

December to February
Warm, generally clear conditions, among the best times for views.
September to November and March to April
Mild weather with good visibility.
June to August
Cooler and wetter, with cableway closures more likely due to wind or cloud.
