The journey to Fairy Meadows is an adventure in itself. From Islamabad, the route follows the Karakoram Highway to Raikot Bridge, the starting point of the trip. From here, a thrilling jeep ride along a narrow mountain track takes you to Tato Village, and the rest of the way is a scenic trek of around 3 to 4 hours through forests, streams and small wooden bridges. The trail is steady rather than extreme, so it suits most travelers with a reasonable level of fitness, and porters and horses are available for those who need help with luggage.
Once you arrive, there is plenty to enjoy. Wooden huts and camps let you spend the night under a sky full of stars, and bonfire evenings with hot tea are a highlight of the stay. For those who want to go further, an easy trek leads to Beyal Camp, a beautiful alpine spot with even closer views of the mountain, and onward to Nanga Parbat Base Camp for the more adventurous. Short walks to viewpoints and nearby glaciers, along with photography and camping, make the stay worthwhile.
