About Beyal Camp

Beyal Camp is a high alpine campsite on the trail between Fairy Meadows and Nanga Parbat Base Camp. It sits in a clearing at the edge of the forest, with the Raikot glacier valley below and the snow walls of Nanga Parbat rising above. It is much quieter than Fairy Meadows, and many trekkers say the views are even better.

The walk from Fairy Meadows is gentle, with very little climbing, so Beyal is a rewarding goal for travelers who want a real mountain night without a full expedition. It is also the natural overnight stop for those continuing on to Nanga Parbat Base Camp, since it shortens the next day's trek.

Local story

About the Camp

Beyal Camp lies in an open pasture at the tree line, with pine forest behind it and glacier and rock ahead. The camp is usually a seasonal set of tents and basic huts used by trekkers and local herders. In the morning the first light turns the peaks of Nanga Parbat gold, and by evening the air is still and very cold.

How to Reach Beyal Camp

  1. 01

    Islamabad to Chilas

Drive from Islamabad to Chilas along the Karakoram Highway. The journey takes around 11 hours, so most groups break it with a night in the Kaghan or Naran area, or at Besham.

  2. 02

Chilas to Raikot Bridge and Tato

From Chilas, drive to Raikot Bridge (about 2 hours). From there, a 4x4 jeep takes you up a rough mountain track to Tato village (about 15 km, 1 to 1.5 hours).

  3. 03

    Tato to Fairy Meadows

A trek of about 2 to 4 hours (roughly 5.5 km) climbs through forest to Fairy Meadows at around 3,300 m. This is the hardest part of the approach for most people. Porters and horses are usually available.

  4. 04

    Fairy Meadows to Beyal Camp

A gentle trail through pine forest leads to Beyal Camp in about 1 to 2 hours, with little change in altitude.

Tip: Do not rush straight from Tato to Beyal. Spend at least one night at Fairy Meadows to adjust to the altitude first.
