Local story

About the Visit

For Pakistani travellers, a visit to Arafat is often part of a Makkah Ziyarat during Umrah, a chance to see the place they have heard about in Hajj stories and sermons for years. Arafat is easy to reach by private transport from Makkah, and hotels close to the Haram, easy transfers from Jeddah and Urdu-speaking staff make the trip smoother.

The most popular route is the classic combination of Makkah Ziyarat to Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina, together with Umrah and prayers at the Masjid al-Haram. If you have more time, you can add Jabal al-Noor and the Cave of Hira, Jabal Thawr, Madinah, or extra days of worship and reflection.

Travel Tips for Mount Arafat

A few useful things to know before you go there.

  1. Know the Difference Between the Rite and a Ziyarat

Standing at Arafat on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah is the essential rite of Hajj. Visiting Arafat at any other time is a Ziyarat, not part of Hajj. Access can vary by season and the authorities' rules.

  2. Carry Water and Sun Protection

Arafat is a wide, open plain with very little shade. Daytime temperatures are often very high in summer.

  3. Prepare for Uneven Terrain

The base of the Mount of Mercy is easy to reach, but the paths and steps up the hill can be steep and uneven. Wear comfortable shoes and take your time, especially with elders.

  4. Arrange Round-Trip Transport

Private transfers and taxis take you from Makkah to Arafat — arrange comfortable round-trip transport with a driver who knows the route.

  5. Carry Some Cash

Cards and mobile payments are widely accepted in cities, but carry some cash for small purchases.

  6. Set Up an eSIM or Local SIM

Useful for maps, ride apps and official pilgrim apps.

  7. Carry Snacks and Water

There are few facilities at Arafat outside the Hajj season.

  8. Dress Modestly

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and good walking shoes.

  9. Follow Staff Instructions

Follow the instructions of the authorities and respect the sanctity of the place.

  10. Check Health Requirements

Speak to your doctor about recommended vaccinations, and check the latest Saudi health requirements for pilgrims. Stay hydrated and avoid long walks in the midday heat.

  11. Entry is for Muslims Only

Entry to Makkah and the holy sites is open to Muslims only.
