About Jebel Akhdar

Jebel Akhdar, meaning Green Mountain, is a cool, high plateau in Oman's Al Hajar mountain range, offering a striking contrast to the desert heat of the lowlands below. Rising to nearly 3,000 m, its terraced slopes have been farmed for centuries, producing pomegranates, apricots, walnuts and the Damask roses used to make Oman's famous rose water.

Villages such as Al Ayn and Birkat Al Mouz cling to the edges of dramatic cliffs and terraces, connected by ancient irrigation channels known as falaj systems that still water the orchards today. The mountain's cooler climate, panoramic canyon views and traditional agricultural way of life make it one of Oman's most rewarding highland destinations, particularly during the spring rose-picking season.
