About Masjid al-Qiblatayn

Masjid al-Qiblatayn, the Mosque of the Two Qiblas, is one of the most historic mosques in Madinah. It is known as the place where the direction of prayer was changed from Bayt al-Maqdis in Jerusalem to the Kaaba in Makkah, during the time of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. The command is mentioned in Surah al-Baqarah, and the mosque takes its name from the two qiblas its early worshippers faced.

The mosque lies in the north-west of Madinah, roughly 4 to 5 km from Masjid an-Nabawi, a short drive of about 10 to 15 minutes. It is a calm and easy stop, and most pilgrims include it in a half-day Ziyarat of Madinah.
