About Mount Uhud

Mount Uhud is the mountain just north of Madinah, remembered for the Battle of Uhud and the companions who were martyred there during the time of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. At its foot lies the Uhud martyrs' cemetery area, where Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib رضي الله عنه and many other companions are buried. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم spoke of Uhud with love, and it is one of the best known Ziyarat sites in Madinah.

The mountain lies about 5 to 6 km from Masjid an-Nabawi, a drive of roughly 15 minutes. Nearby you can see the hill where the archers were stationed during the battle, and the surrounding area gives a clear sense of the landscape described in the history of that day. For questions about history, etiquette and rulings, we recommend consulting a trusted scholar.
