About Bayterek Tower

Bayterek Tower stands at the heart of Astana, a 97 m structure topped by a golden glass sphere that has become the single most recognisable symbol of Kazakhstan's capital. The height is deliberately symbolic, representing the year 1997, when Astana became the country's capital.

The tower's design is based on a Kazakh legend of the Tree of Life, on which the mythical bird Samruk laid a golden egg each year, with the sphere representing that egg. Inside, a fast lift carries visitors up to an observation deck inside the sphere, giving wide views over the striking modern architecture of Astana's government district, the river, and the steppe beyond.
