About Shymbulak Ski Resort

Shymbulak is Kazakhstan's largest ski resort, set in the Medeu Gorge a short drive and gondola ride above Almaty. A series of cable cars climbs from the Medeu ice rink up through the forested slopes to the resort's base, and then higher again toward the top station at around 3,200 m, where runs look out over the jagged Tien Shan range.

In winter, from around December to April, the resort draws skiers and snowboarders with reliable snow and well-maintained slopes for a range of abilities. Outside the ski season, Shymbulak remains a popular destination for the gondola ride alone, with hiking trails, mountain cafes and some of the best panoramic views of the Tien Shan available anywhere near Almaty.
