About Kumrat Valley

Kumrat Valley is one of the most beautiful and untouched corners of Upper Dir, where thick deodar forests, open green meadows and snow-capped peaks come together in a single scene. The journey usually begins from Islamabad towards Chakdara, Timergara and Dir, with the road slowly climbing into greener and cooler terrain. From Thal, the gateway village, the road follows the Panjkora River deeper into the mountains, with wooden houses, orchards and small bazaars along the way.

Once you arrive, the valley opens up with tall deodar trees on both sides and the constant sound of the Panjkora River flowing beside your camp. A short drive or walk leads to Jandrai Waterfall, a cool and refreshing stop surrounded by forest. For those who enjoy trekking, the trail to Jahaz Banda is the highlight of any trip, a high-altitude meadow with wide views of the surrounding peaks. Adventurous travelers can also hike to Katora Lake, a beautiful alpine lake set among the mountains.

Evenings in Kumrat Valley are simple and unforgettable. You can enjoy freshly cooked river trout, hot tea, camping beside the river, wooden hut stays and bonfire nights under a sky full of stars. It also connects naturally with Swat Valley and Kalam for travelers who want to extend their northern trip.

With a good mix of easy sightseeing, light adventure and peaceful nature, Kumrat Valley suits families, couples, friends and solo travelers alike. It is reachable from Islamabad in a day, making even a short 3-day trip worthwhile.

Jahaz Banda was a highlight of our whole trip, though the trek up is no joke. Bring good boots.
