Rising above the deodar forests of Kumrat Valley, Jahaz Banda is a wide, open meadow ringed by rocky peaks and dense pine slopes. The name is often explained by the meadow’s ship-like shape, as “jahaz” means ship in Urdu and “banda” refers to a high pasture. On clear days the views stretch across layers of forested ridges and snow-dusted summits, and clouds often drift right across the grass.
The meadow is not reached by road. A bumpy jeep ride along a forest track takes you towards the trailhead, followed by a trek through deodar forest, streams and open slopes. The first glimpse of the meadow opening up is the reward for the climb.
Jahaz Banda is popular with trekkers, campers and photographers, and many travelers describe it as the highlight of their Kumrat trip.
