Katora Lake: Kumrat’s Hidden Alpine Gem

A remote alpine lake set among snow peaks and meadows, reached by a jeep ride and a rewarding mountain trek.

About Katora Lake

Tucked away in the mountains above Kumrat Valley, Katora Lake is a quiet alpine lake surrounded by rocky peaks, snow patches and open green meadows. The name comes from its bowl-like shape, as “katora” means bowl in Urdu. Its calm, clear water reflects the sky and the mountains around it, and the setting feels far from the world below.

The lake is not reached by road. A bumpy jeep ride up a forest track takes you to the trailhead, followed by a long trek through pine forest, streams and high meadows. The effort is part of the charm, and the first view of the lake feels like a reward for the climb.
