Louvre Abu Dhabi sits on the water at Saadiyat Island, a museum city of about 55 white buildings sheltered by one huge silver dome roughly 180 m wide and made of 7,850 metal stars. Sunlight filters through the dome in thousands of small patterns, shifting slowly from morning to afternoon.
Opened on 11 November 2017 and designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the museum is built around the idea that human stories connect across cultures. Instead of grouping art by country, its 23 permanent galleries follow themes and time periods, so an ancient object can sit beside a modern painting. It is the first universal museum in the Arab world and a centrepiece of Saadiyat, where the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is due to open on 11 December 2026.
Tickets start from about AED 65 for adults, with free entry for under 18s; the museum is usually closed on Mondays. It suits families, couples, art lovers, groups and photographers, for a visit of 2 to 4 hours.
Temporary exhibitions and major international shows rotate through the year, so check what's on during your visit. Combo tickets with Qasr Al Watan or the Grand Mosque are sometimes offered.
Fly from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad or another major city to Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, or fly to Dubai and drive about 1.5 hours. Check current UAE visa rules for your passport before booking.
Continue to central Abu Dhabi or Saadiyat Island, which makes a convenient base. The drive takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes.
Drive or take a taxi about 20 minutes to Saadiyat Island. Museum parking has been free for visitors.
Show your ticket, walk under the dome, follow the galleries and finish on the waterside terraces.
December to February

March to May
