About Flame Towers

The Flame Towers are three curved skyscrapers on a hill above Baku, designed to look like tongues of fire. Their shape is a nod to the name Land of Fire, which Azerbaijan is known by because of its natural gas flames and fire-worshipping history.

Completed in 2012, the towers quickly became the most recognisable landmark in the city and hold a hotel, residential apartments and offices. After dark, thousands of LED lights turn the glass walls into moving flames, waving flags and other animations. They can be seen from almost anywhere in Baku and from the sea, making them a place to look up at as much as to visit — the complex sits on high ground, so the towers dominate the view from the harbour and the old streets below.
