The Burj Khalifa rises above Downtown Dubai like a silver spire, standing 828 m tall as the tallest building in the world since it opened in January 2010. On a clear day it can be seen from far across the city, and at night its glass and steel shimmer with light.
The tower is home to apartments, offices and a hotel, with observation decks at The Top on levels 124 and 125, plus a higher deck on level 148. Its shape is inspired by a desert flower and Islamic patterns, narrowing in steps as it rises. Visitors enter through the Dubai Mall, pass through a short exhibition and take a fast lift to the viewing levels, where indoor and outdoor areas and telescopes show the city, desert and sea spread out below.
Sunset visits are the busiest, so tickets cost more and sell out sooner — mornings are calmer and give clear views on cooler days. The tower suits families, couples, groups and photographers for a visit of 1 to 2 hours.
The tower is also lit with colourful displays on special days, and the Dubai Fountain performs beneath it in the evenings — plan to combine both in one visit.
Fly from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi or other cities to Dubai International Airport. Direct flights take about three hours, and many airlines operate daily.
Take a taxi, the Dubai Metro or a hotel transfer into the city, usually 20 to 40 minutes depending on your hotel.
Take the Dubai Metro to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, or a taxi, then follow the signs through the mall to the entrance.
Go up to the observation deck, enjoy the view and then walk back through the Dubai Mall.

Warm to hot days. Views are clear in the morning and evening.
June to August

Travel smart
A few useful things to know before you go there.
Sunset slots sell out first, and prices change with the time slot.
Allow time to find the entrance inside the mall and to pass security.
Dust and haze can reduce visibility, so check the weather.
Air conditioning can feel cold, even in summer.
Dubai is relaxed, but modest, neat clothing is respectful in malls and public spaces.
It is cheap and avoids road traffic around Downtown.
Cards are widely accepted. The currency is the UAE dirham.
Public behaviour and photography near people should always be polite.
