About Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Shrine

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar's shrine rises in the middle of Sehwan Sharif, an old town of narrow lanes, rose-petal stalls and busy bazaars. Its blue-and-white tiled walls, glittering mirror work, domes and gold-plated door make it one of the most recognisable shrines in Sindh, and it draws visitors from across Pakistan and beyond.

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar was a Sufi saint and poet who came from the Marwand region and settled in Sehwan in the 13th century. He is remembered for his message of love, tolerance and devotion, and his shrine is visited by people of many communities. The shrine is best known for its dhamal, a devotional ritual of drums and dance performed around sunset, and for the Urs, a huge annual gathering marking the saint's death anniversary.

Local story

About the Shrine

Situated in the heart of town, the shrine features a courtyard complex adorned with traditional Sindhi blue-and-white kashi tilework, intricate mirror work, and a famous gold-plated door gifted by the Shah of Iran. Devotees gather in the main courtyard for prayer, ceremony, and the energetic evening dhamal ritual accompanied by nauba drumming, while busy surrounding bazaars offer rose petals, chadors, and sweets. Visiting in the late afternoon and evening highlights the warm glow on the tiled walls, making it the most atmospheric time to experience the complex.
