Mohatta Palace stands in the heart of Clifton, surrounded by lawns and framed by domes, arched windows and finely carved balconies. Built in pink Jodhpur stone with yellow Gizri stone trim, it is one of the most beautiful heritage buildings in Karachi and a rare example of Rajasthani-influenced Indo-Saracenic design in the city.
It was built in the late 1920s as a summer home for Shivratan Chandraratan Mohatta, a Marwari businessman, and designed by architect Agha Ahmed Hussain. After Partition it passed through several hands. It served government offices and was later the home of Fatima Jinnah, sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, which is why it was long known as Qasr-e-Fatima. After a period of neglect, it was restored and reopened as a museum in 1999. Today it hosts art exhibitions, heritage displays and cultural events.

Built in the Indo-Saracenic style, the multi-story palace sits in landscaped grounds with a striking pink Jodhpur stone façade trimmed with yellow Gizri stone. Key highlights include carved balconies, arched windows, domed pavilions, and quiet gardens alongside dedicated event spaces for cultural programs and talks. Inside, main galleries showcase rotating art, craft, and heritage exhibitions, including displays highlighting its historic connection as the residence of Fatima Jinnah. Visiting in the late afternoon offers the best views as the soft light enhances the warm tones of the stone.
Karachi is well connected by air (Jinnah International Airport), by rail (Karachi Cantt and City stations) and by road from Hyderabad and Thatta.
From most parts of Karachi, the palace is about 20 to 50 minutes by car, depending on traffic.
Take a taxi or ride-hailing service to Hatim Alvi Road, Clifton. Parking is available but can be limited during events.
Buy your ticket at the entrance and carry a valid ID if required.
