About Ushu Valley

North of Kalam, the Ushu stream flows through a narrow valley of dense deodar forest, grassy clearings and small villages. Ushu Valley, often called Ushu Forest by visitors, is one of the most peaceful places in Upper Swat, with cool air, the smell of pine and the constant sound of running water.

The valley is reached by a rough jeep track that follows the stream upward from Kalam. Along the way you pass wooden houses, small bridges, picnic spots and forest clearings. It is also the main route towards Mahodand Lake, so many travelers pass through Ushu on their way up and stop again on the return.
