About Kashmir Point

Kashmir Point is one of the most popular viewpoints in Murree, a short walk from the lively centre of Mall Road. From its railings you look out over a spread of forested ridges that fold away into the distance, with the hills of Azad Kashmir on the far horizon. On a clear day the layers of blue and green seem to go on forever.

The point sits at the quieter end of the promenade, where the shops and crowds thin out and the air feels cooler and fresher. Early in the morning you may see mist filling the valleys below, while late afternoon brings warm light across the hills and some of the best sunset views in the area.

Local story

What's at Kashmir Point

  • The main viewing area: A wide platform at the edge of the slope, with an unobstructed view of the hills.

  • Layered ridges: Pine-covered slopes stacked one behind the other, especially striking when haze or mist softens the distance.

  • Seating and tea stalls: Places to sit, sip tea and snack while taking in the view.

  • Sunset views: Late afternoon light turns the ridges golden and then deep blue.

  • Snowy landscape in winter: Fresh snow turns the whole hillside white, though access can be limited in bad weather.

  • Walkable from Mall Road: The stroll from GPO Chowk is gentle and lined with shops.

  • Nearby viewpoints and parks: Lintott Park and other lookout spots are close by.

Clear mornings and late afternoons give the best views. Cloudy or foggy days can hide the distance but create an atmospheric, misty mood.

Travel Tips for Kashmir Point

A few useful things to know before you go there.

  1. Visit early or near sunset

The light is best, and the crowds are smaller in the morning.

  2. Check weather and roads

Snow, fog and landslides can close roads, so check updates before you leave.

  3. Carry warm clothes

Evenings are cold even in summer, and winters are very cold.

  4. Wear comfortable shoes

The walk is sloped and can be wet or icy.

  5. Stay behind the railings

The edge is steep, so supervise children closely.

  6. Do not travel in severe weather

Follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary trips during heavy snowfall.

  7. Agree prices first

Confirm rates for taxis, horse rides, photo sessions and parking before you start.

  8. Check hotel rates

Prices rise sharply in peak season, so compare options and book early.

  9. Keep valuables safe

The Mall is crowded, so watch your bags and phones.

  10. Carry cash

Some small vendors may not accept cards.

  11. Keep the area clean

Use dustbins and avoid littering, especially plastic.

  12. Avoid peak weekends if you dislike crowds

Eid holidays, summer weekends and snowfall days bring very heavy crowds, long traffic delays and higher hotel prices. Weekdays and shoulder seasons are much calmer.
